The Nine Deaths competition: the winners

The Nine Deaths of Dr Valentine cover image

Some time ago we announced a competition to celebrate the launch of John Llewellyn Probert’s Spectral Visions novella The Nine Deaths of Dr. Valentine. We have now picked a winner, much later than originally planned due to pressure of work and events but, before we announce who that winner is, here’s a reminder of what was up for grabs:

THE PRIZESTop prize is a personally signed copy of the hardback, along with a poster of the front cover image (also signed), a paperback copy of Gary Fry’s The Respectable Face of Tyranny (signed), a set of posters of the covers of all the chapbooks published to date, and a Spectral badge.

Second and third prizes for the next two correct entries will be signed paperback copies of The Nine Deaths of Dr. Valentine, accompanied by a poster of the cover image (unsigned) and a Spectral badge.

All entrants had to do was answer the following question, set by the fiendish Mr. Probert himself:

In the film THEATRE OF BLOOD, how many plays made up Edward Lionheart’s final season of Shakespeare?

The answer was: TEN – Julius CaesarTroilus & CressidaCymbelineMerchant of VeniceRomeo & JulietRichard IIIOthelloHenry VI Part 1Titus Andronicus and King Lear.

And the winner is: ALISON LITTLEWOOD!

Congratulations to all – we will be emailing you within the next couple of days!

Newsy bits and pieces

Spectral Press LogoTo start off this extremely sunny Monday morning, here are a few bits and pieces of news:

First off, the hardback edition of Gary Fry’s novella The Respectable Face of Tyranny will be delayed very slightly and will now be available in mid-April – but as soon as it comes into stock copies will start to wing their way towards those who purchased them. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Secondly, it has been decided that Wayne Simmons’ as yet untitled chapbook will be published next year, not in December this year as orginally planned. This is purely because Wayne has already published quite a bit recently and he feels that it would be better if the chapbook was published sometime in 2013. Spectral will now ponder how best to rejig things – more news when all has been decided.

Thirdly, and most importantly, the winners of the Spectral/This Is Horror short story competition will finally be announced THIS EVENING – so please look out for that!! We had some excellent entries, and I can definitely say that the winning story thoroughly deserved its first place.

So, until this evening, onwards and upwards!

Cate’s Nowhere Hall competition: the winners!

Remember last month I told you about the two splendiferous competitions that Cate Gardner, author of Spectral Volume III Nowhere Hall, was running in the wake of the chapbook selling out? But if you want to know  who they are then you’ll just have to jet over to Cate’s website – follow the link here.
