Bits and pieces: News – 02:06:2014

Spectral Press logoNEW BOOKS FOR 2015

It is with immense please that we can announce the acquisition of two novellas from a duo of top class writers.

First, we have Albion Fay from MARK MORRIS, a name which should be familiar to many. It tells the story of twins Angie and Frank, about a weekspent in an isolated holiday home surrounded by a landscape which is as dangerous as it is beautiful. Set against the deteriorating marriage of their parents, that holiday will be about to change everyone’s lives. Date of publication TBC.

The second novella will be Leytonstone, by none other than STEPHEN VOLK, the author of last year’s bestselling Whitstable. This will be the second in his Dark Masters trilogy, of which Whitstable was the first, and for this one the subject is a very young Alfred Hitchcock. In the story, we get to learn of the many influences which went into the making of the adult, and how those influences collaborated in creating one of the foremost directors of his time. If you liked Whitstable, then we can guarantee that you will love LeytonstoneAlso due in 2015.

The Christmas Ghost Stories of Lawrence Gordon Clark: Deluxe edition.

The books will be arriving either tomorrow or Wednesday – and we will be despatching them this week too.

Black Mountain serial

Episode six of Simon Bestwick’s monthly serial, Black Mountain: The House by the Cemetery, will be published very soon: it’s lateness is due to unavoidable personal circumstances which the author had to attend to. This means that there will be TWO episodes this month, so that the serial will be back on schedule by the end of June.

Chapbook packaging

From the next issue of the chapbook series, Volume XII (Robert Shearman’s Christmas in the Time of Ennui) and which will be published in July, they will be packaged in sturdier and more protective envelopes. This will mainly be to guard against spine damage and the wanton mishandling by postmen. Subscription prices will be held at current prices.

News Update 08:05:2014

Spectral Press logoTHE CHRISTMAS GHOST STORIES OF LAWRENCE GORDON CLARK: DELUXE EDITION PROGRESS REPORT

Currently, this is at the printers awaiting the signature sheets to be tipped in, after which the slipcases will be made. This means that, at long last, they will be sent out to customers along with an abject and grovelly apology from us here at Chateau Spectrale for the unconscionable delay. Please be assured however, that copies will get to you all next month.

Many thanks for your patience, one and all.

SPECTRAL CHAPBOOK VOLUME XII

The next chapbook to come subscriber’s way will be multi-award winning Robert Shearman’s Christmas in the Time of Ennui, a suitably weird and bittersweet tale published at a suitably weird time of the year – June. Don’t forget you can subscribe to the chapbooks (see previous blog entry) as well as buy individually at £4.50UK/£8.00EU/$20.00US & RoW via Paypal address spectralpress[AT]gmail[DOT]com. Caroline’s son returns to home and hearth at last. She’s a good parent or so she tells herself. She did everything a mother could to bring Simon back, even lied for him. The only problem is that Caroline’s not sure actually wants him here anymore.

Has Simon changed? Or is he still a danger? And does it matter now that the shadows are beginning to stir in the empty rooms of Caroline’s house?

NEWS

We have been informed that, provisionally at least, the reprinted Unsigned HBs of The Christmas Ghost Stories of Lawrence Gordon Clark will be here with us on Friday, 11th April. Deliveries of replacement copies will begin shortly afterwards.

May we extend our appreciation to our customers for their patience! Many thanks.

ANNOUNCEMENT: The Christmas Ghost Stories of Lawrence Gordon Clark

Spectral Press logoDue to a printers error (a software issue in converting PC files to Mac) several pages of the Unsigned Edition of The Christmas Ghost Stories of Lawrence Gordon Clark have been printed in the wrong order. The whole run of the book will be reprinted and free replacement copies will be sent to those customers who have already purchased this edition. All of those customers have already been notified via email of the situation. We have been told that the new copies will be with us on the 11th April. Many thanks for your understanding and patience in this matter.

This is very disappointing for us, however we are also aware that these things do happen from time to time, but we are very grateful for the manner and efficiency with which the printers, Berforts Information Press, have dealt with it.

On a happier note, the files for the Deluxe Edition of the same book have now been sent off to and received by the printers – we will of course let everyone know via our various social media pages (here, Facebook, and Twitter) when they’re expected to arrive into stock. We are very much looking forward to getting this one in our hands.

Onwards and upwards!!

First off, we would like to let you know about the latest review of The Christmas Ghost Stories of Lawrence Gordon Clark – this one is from Jez Winship and has been posted to his Sparks in Electrical Jelly blog. It’s quite a lengthy and in-depth review, and you can read it HERE.

On the subject of The Christmas Ghost Stories, we would like to inform purchasers of the Unsigned Hardback edition that, due to a printing error, the dustjackets are being reprinted. We have just received the proof and the finished articles will be here by the end of next week.

The Deluxe edition will soon be going to print – just minor details to the covers are being worked on by the magnificent John Oakey. Please bear with us as the signature sheets will be signed individually by Lawrence Gordon Clark, Tony Earnshaw and Simon Marshall-Jones, plus the slipcases are being separately custom-made for the book. Although this is taking longer than anticipated, we can assure you that the quality of workmanship will be absolutely superb – in other words, we will only produce the best for our customers. Many apologies for the delay, but it will be worth it.
