News 07:08:2014

We have a great deal of news to report this morning, so without any more pre-amble:

Black Mountian 8 Cover

The latest episode, number 8, of Simon Bestwick’s Black Mountain serial, A Lake of Fire, is now available through Amazon. Once again we have to thank the brilliant Neil Williams for the superb cover (above), which we happen to think is one of his best yet.

Even more good news is that the slipcases for The Christmas Ghost Stories of Lawrence Gordon Clark have at last arrived, and they look lush – see the photos below.

The slipcases will be dispatched to purchasers from this weekend onwards

Next, in getting around to opening some boxes after having been in our new place for seven months, we discovered we have a couple of copies in signed and numbered hardback of the following titles:

The Nine Deaths of Dr. Valentine by John Llewellyn Probert (TWO only)

The Respectable Face of Tyranny by Gary Fry (TWO only)

They can be had for £12 UK/£15 EU/$30 US & RoW each – but only if you hurry. Please contact us first on spectralpress[AT]gmail[DOT]com to secure your copy on a first come first served basis.

Finally, please check out the latest issue of The Spectral Times (unrelated to Spectral Press), where you’ll be able to find an interview with two Spectral stalwarts: Lawrence Gordon Clark and Stephen Volk. Lawrence talks about his involvement with the A Ghost Story for Christmas dramas for the BBC in the seventies and about the Deluxe Edition of the Spectral Book. Meanwhile, Stephen discusses the infamous Ghostwatch, with a mention of Whitstable along the way. The electronic edition of the magazine is FREE, and can be obtained from HERE.

The Christmas Ghost Stories of Lawrence Gordon Clark Deluxe Edition has definitely sold out, plus we have been informed that the slipcases for the books will be here next week. An interview with Lawrence Gordon Clark himself will appear in the next issue of The Spectral Times magazine (not related to us in any way) – more details when we have them.

News 10:05:2014 – LGC Deluxe in photos

What you see here are images of a real live copy of the Deluxe Edition of The Christmas Ghost Stories of Lawrence Gordon Clark – although it’s currently the only one in our possession as this will be sent off to the slipcase makers to have them custom fitted. The rest of the books will be here later this week, whereupon we will start sending customers’ orders out, with the slipcases to be dispatched later on. We here at Spectral think this tome is a thing of beauty – and we hope you will think so too!

The Deluxe Edition of Lawrence Gordon Clark book: an update

CGS_Qtr cover

The good news about the ultra limited Deluxe Edition of The Christmas Ghost Stories of Lawrence Gordon Clark is that they will be here either tomorrow (Friday 30th May) or Monday 2nd June. The slipcases however still need to be made. In view of the already inordinate delay occasioned by various issues, Spectral will be sending the book out to customers first followed by the slipcases when they’re ready. This is so that customers can at least read the book they have waited for. All purchasers will be notified by email of this situation individually.

All it remains for us to do is to thank all who bought the book for their extreme patience!

Thank you!

Whitstable cover image

First, here’s a little article about Peter Cushing and Stephen Volk’s Whitstable that appeared yesterday at Gef Fox’s Wag the Fox blog, written by Simon Marshall-Jones of Spectral. The article gives an insight into the actor and why Stephen wrote the novella, as well as what drives the narrative. You can read the piece here.

The Way of the Leaves cover image

There are certain things that are guaranteed to bring big smiles to us here at Spectral Towers and we feature two such events here today. First up is a great review of David Tallerman’s The Way of the Leaves, which has appeared at the Wag the Fox review blog, written by the host himself,  Gef Fox. You can read the review here.

What Gets Left Behind cover image

Secondly, This is Horror magazine hold the This Is Horror Awards every year and, in the 2012 edition, we are proud to announce that Mark West’s What Gets Left Behind was runner-up in the Short Fiction category – sitting nicely behind Stephen King and Joe Hill’s In the Tall Grass. Nice one!

Congratulations to Mark on such a great achievement!

Don’t forget to put in your pre-order for Stephen Volk’s Whitstable novella (featuring an Afterword by renowned British novelist and short story writer Mark Morris) – see previous blog entry of details of the book and a rather special offer of the novella combined with a 2CD set of Peter Cushing reading his Hammer Years memoirs. Also, you can also now purchase slipcases to keep your chapbooks all nice and pristine, as well as buy subscriptions to the books, so why not do so today!

The 13 Ghosts of Christmas cover image

First up this morning is this review of The 13 Ghosts of Christmas from Riju Ganguly, posted to his Thoughts of a Perceptive Reader blog – the write-up can be accessed by clicking here.

NEWS

Subscriptions

For the very first time since the chapbooks were launched two years ago it looks like they could be reaching the fully 100% subscribed mark – there are fewer than TEN (10) places left before they will be. And the next chapbook, Paul Kane’s Creakers, is bound to go fast as the Arrowhead trilogy author is a popular writer. And the best way to ensure that you do secure a copy is to subscribe, which couldn’t be simpler!

Yearly (4 issue) subscriptions cost £16UK/£23.50EU /$45US/ $45US RoW and there are handy Paypal buttons down the right-hand side of this blog. To make it a little sweeter, if you order a subscription before midnight GMT tomorrow (Wednesday) then we will throw in an extra issue, making it five for the price of four. (Individual issues can also be bought: £4UK/£7.00EU/$16US/$16RoW – contact us on spectralpress[AT]gmail[DOT]com for details).

Slipcases

In the near future, Spectral subscribers will be able to keep the chapbook collection nice and safe with one of our custom slipcases. Each one will be a stylish way of keeping all those lovely little books together and stop them getting damaged. Measuring 213mm x 47mm x 149mm and covered in black buckram with the Spectral logo silver foil blocked on the spine, they are just the right size to hold two years’ worth of chapbooks, in other words 8 issues. They will retail at £8 each + postage (ie £10 all in) or £15 for two (+ postage).

They won’t be ready for a month or two, but I would encourage people to send us an email (spectralpress[AT]gmail[DOT]com) to register your interest in buying one. They will also be offered as an option when ordering a new subscription.
